Carbon Neutral

Contecon Guayaquil S.A. was Latin America’s first port to receive a CARBON NEUTRAL certification (2018). Committed to minimizing our carbon footprint, we raise awareness about the greenhouse effect and emission management, and compensating with oxygen generation from natural reserves.

CGSA earned this certification due to its policies-turned-sustainable initiatives, which include recycling and the incorporation of technology that reduces the environmental impact of operations.

“Punto Verde” Ecuadorian Environmental Certification

As a result of its commitment, effort, and move towards eco-friendly technologies, Contecon Guayaquil S.A. has been awarded a Punto Verde certification. This means that we are optimizing resources and reducing pollution through cleaner production projects: “A 47.34% reduction in diesel consumption after electrification of cranes, a 79.18% reduction in the use of diesel after switching from Power Packs to Reefer energy supply systems, a 85.58% reduction in electric energy consumption after changing sodium steam lights to LED illumination systems, a 48.80% reduction in special waste production by retreading used tires.”

ISO Certifications – Integrated Management System

Contecon Guayaquil S.A. (CGSA) features aa Integrated Management System (SGI) with the following scope: Loading, Discharge, Storage, Dispatching, and Reception Port Services for import and export cargo. It includes the following standards:

  • ISO 9001:2015: Quality Management System
  • ISO 14001:2015: Environmental Management System
  • ISO 45001:2018: Occupational Health and Safety Management System
  • ISO 28000: 2007: Supply Chain Safety Management System, “Cargo Safety”

ISPS Code

Aiming to comply with the highest safety standards, Contecon Guayaquil S.A. earned the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code certification, generated by the IMO (International Maritime Organization) to provide regulation and consistency in risk assessment. It also aims to avoid sea transport-based terrorist attacks on vessels, facilities, cargoes, and passengers, enabling governments to face new threats by increasing protective measures in a coordinated manner and on an international level.
